PLAIN PASTRY 
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
3-4 tbsp. cold water

Stir together flour and salt. Cut in shortening until pieces are the size of small peas. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon water over part of the mixture. Gently toss with fork. Push to side of bowl; repeat until moist.
