SCALLOPED APPLES 
4 med. tart apples, peeled, cored, sliced
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground cloves

Toss apples with sugar and spices.

Melt in skillet:

1/2 c. butter
2 c. FRESH bread crumbs (4 slices bread)

Add to melted butter and toast lightly, stirring frequently.

In greased 8-inch square baking dish layer HALF the apples, then HALF the crumbs. Top with remaining apples and crumbs. Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.

Side dish for pork, ham, or sausages (OR) dessert with a topping of ice cream, whipped cream, whipped topping or hard sauce.

Serves 4.
