4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs

FILLING:

2 1/4 c. cut-up dates
1 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 c. finely chopped nuts

Combine dates, sugar and water in saucepan; cook over low heat until thick. Add nuts and cool. Cream shortening and brown sugar; add eggs and mix well. Add sifted flour, salt and soda. Mix; chill.

Divide mixture and roll into rectangles about 1/4 inch thick. Spread each with date filling, and roll up as for jelly rolls. Wrap in wax paper and chill overnight. Slice and bake in 400 degree oven for 10 minutes.
