DATE-ALMOND PINWHEELS 
DOUGH:

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg, well beaten
2 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

FILLING:

1/2 lb. pitted dates, finely cut
1/4 c. sugar
1/3 c. water
Few grains salt
1/4 c. finely chopped almonds

DOUGH: Work butter until creamy. Stir in the sugars gradually, then beat until fluffy. Beat in egg. Sift together flour, soda and salt. Stir into butter mixture. Chill for 1/2 hour.

FILLING: Combine dates, sugar, water, and salt in a small pan. Cook 5 minutes over low heat, stirring frequently. Cool and add nuts.

Roll dough into a 10x16 inch rectangle. Spread date mixture. Roll up like jelly roll, starting with a wide side. Wrap in wax paper and chill overnight. Set oven for 350 degrees.
