SWEET BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
3 c. flour
3 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk

Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and sugar. Cut shortening into flour. Add buttermilk and stir until just moist. Turn onto floured surface; knead gently until smooth. Roll dough 1/2 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Yields 12 to 14 biscuits.
