WHOLE WHEAT BISCUITS
1 1/4 c. whole wheat flour
1 1/4 c. unbleached white flour
1 1/2 tbsp. baking powder
Dash salt
1 tbsp. sugar
3/4 c. Crisco (see below)
1 c. buttermilk (may substitute sweet milk)

May use all white if desired.

Thoroughly mix dry ingredients, cut in Crisco until crumbly. Add milk all at once to make soft dough. Roll out on floured board to make dough more manageable, add extra flour as needed. Cut and place on buttered pan. Coat tops with melted butter. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.

NOTE: I do not use soda in my biscuits, if you prefer to, add 1 teaspoon baking soda.

These freeze nicely. Just freeze in plastic bag; place on buttered pan and coat tops with melted butter to heat.

Optional: Use 1/2 cup oil instead of Crisco and just mix all above together. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and bake.
