SAUSAGE AND STEAK MELT | |
1 lb. Jimmy Dean sausage (regular or hot) 1 lb. round steak, cut into thin 2 inch strips 1 c. onion, chopped into 1 inch pieces 1 c. fresh mushrooms, sliced 1/2 c. pitted, ripe olives, halved 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 tsp. dried parsley 1 tsp. Italian seasoning 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. red pepper 1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce 1 (14 1/2 oz.) can tomatoes, diced and undrained 6 Po-Boy loaves 1 1/2 c. shredded Mozzarella cheese (more, if desired) Crumble sausage into a large skillet; add steak and cook until meats are browned; drain thoroughly. Add remaining ingredients, except bread and cheese. Simmer 1 hour. Open bread loaves and lightly toast. Fill bread with meat filling and top with cheese. Place under a broiler long enough to melt cheese. Serves 6. |
