DATE COFFEE CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla

TOPPING:

1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. chopped dates (optional) or chunked apple (optional)

Cream sugar and butter; add beaten eggs and beat. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with sour cream. (I find this recipe is best if when alternating you end with the sour cream.) Stir in vanilla.

Pour 1/2 batter into greased tube pan (batter will be stiff), spread evenly. Sprinkle with 1/2 topping. Add rest of batter and spread remaining topping. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
