CHRISTMAS RAISIN BREAD 
Dissolve 1 large yeast cake in 2 cups lukewarm water. Add flour to make a sponge, let rise. Then add the following:

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. nut meats
1/2 c. molasses
1 egg
1 c. raisins
1 c. currants (or fruit cake mix and dates)
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1 c. lukewarm milk
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt

Add flour to make the right stiffness for bread. Knead down once and then let rise again and put in loaves. Let rise until about double in size and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
