DATE AND NUT BREAD 
1 1/4 lbs. shelled walnuts
1 c. pitted dates, cut sm.
1 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
1 egg, well beaten

Put sugar, baking soda, nuts and dates in a bowl. Pour the boiling water over the mixture, stir and cool. Add the flour and egg to the mixture and mix thoroughly. Grease 3 cans (the size of baked beans). Distribute the batter so that they will be no more than 3/4 full. Bake 350 degrees for about 1 hour.
