TEMPURA 
1 sm. egg
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. flour
1/4 c. cornstarch
1/4 tsp. baking powder

Beat the egg and water together with a fork. Mix flour, cornstarch and baking powder; add to egg mixture all at once. Stir briefly with fork or chop sticks. Do not overmix, as batter should be rather lumpy.

Dip shrimp, pork slices, string beans, carrots, mushrooms, asparagus or other meat or vegetables into batter. Fry in deep fat at 350 degrees until light, golden brown. Just before removing from hot fat, sprinkle one or two drops of batter on top of items to give a lacy effect.
