DROP DOUGHNUTS 
2 tbsp. shortening, melted
1 1/2 c. flour
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 egg, beaten
12 c. milk
Shortening or oil for frying

Combine the dry ingredients. Combine the egg and milk. Add to dry ingredients. Stir in melted shortening. Drop by teaspoonfuls into the deep shortening that has been heated to 375 degrees (or until an inch cube of bread browns in 1 minute). Fry for 2 to 4 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Yields: 12-15 (2 inch) doughnuts.
