DROPPED DOUGHNUTS 
3 c. all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
2 tbsp. solid vegetable shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. milk
4 c. oil (for frying)
Confectioners sugar

Sift first 5 ingredients into a bowl and set aside. In medium-size bowl cream shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Alternately add milk and flour mixture, stirring until well blended.

Heat oil to 365 degrees. Carefully drop batter by 1/4 cups into oil. Turn doughnuts as they brown evenly. Remove and drain on paper towel covered racks. When cool, sprinkle with confectioners sugar or toss with sugar in paper bag.
