CHERRY DUMPLINGS 
1 (16 oz.) can pie cherries
3/4 cup sugar

Boil cherries and sugar 3 minutes in a skillet.

DUMPLING BATTER:

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. sugar
3 tbsp. shortening
1/2 cup milk
1 beaten egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Sift dry ingredients together; cut in shortening. Mix milk, egg and vanilla together. Add to the flour mixture and stir until moistened.

Add 2 tablespoons butter to cherries; drop dough mixture by spoonful into cherries. Reduce heat, cover and cook for 18 to 20 minutes.
