GERMAN RED CABBAGE | |
6 slices bacon, diced 1/4 c. vinegar 2 tbsp. sugar 1/2 lg. or 1 sm. red cabbage, finely sliced with a knife (NOT a grater) 1 apple, peeled & diced Grated pepper 1/4 to 1/2 c. water, to prevent sticking Fry bacon in a large pot. When nicely browned, add vinegar and sugar. Put cabbage and apple in pot and add pepper. Add enough water to prevent sticking. Cook slowly, low heat, covered, for about 2 hours. Serves 4. |
