CHEESE RIBBONS
Maybe the only time you use a cookie press is to make rich and buttery spritz cookies. Well, dig it out of the closet for these savory, cheese-flavored snacks. They're shaped using the ribbon plate of a cookie press.

1 1/2 c. shredded American or Cheddar cheese (6 oz.)
1/2 c. butter
1 egg
2 tsp. prepared mustard
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour

For dough, in a mixer bowl beat cheese and butter together with an electric mixer. Add egg, mustard, and garlic powder, then beat well. Stir in flour until well combined, kneading in the last of the flour by hand if necessary.

Using the ribbon plate of a cookie press, press dough onto an ungreased baking sheet into long strips. Score strips diagonally every 3 to 4 inches. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from baking sheet immediately. Cool on a wire rack. Break along score marks. Serve warm or cool. Makes about 40.
