OATMEAL BREAD | |
2 c. boiling water 1 c. rolled oats 2 tbsp. shortening 1/2 c. molasses 2 tsp. salt 1 pkg. yeast dissolved in 1/2 c. warm water 5 to 6 c. flour Pour 2 cups boiling water over the rolled oats. Add 2 tablespoons shortening. Cool to lukewarm then add molasses, salt and yeast. Stir in the flour and knead until dough is soft and easy to handle. I use 5 cups of flour. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Makes 2 loaves or 2 dozen buns. I bake the buns 25 minutes. Let dough rise euntil double in size before you make into loaves or buns. |
