TIPSY TRIFLE (ENGLISH) | |
1 Swiss roll or pound cake 15 oz. fruit (berries are the best) 4 tbsp. sherry 2 tbsp. custard powder 2 tbsp. sugar 20 fluid oz. milk Whipped cream Nuts or chocolate chips to decorate Crumble Swiss roll or pound cake in bottom of a fruit bowl. Add fruit, complete with juice, sherry and mix so that the cake is moistened by the juice. Mix custard powder and sugar in a bowl with a little of the milk to make a smooth paste, while remaining milk is being brought to the boil. Add boiling milk to paste and stir rapidly to avoid lumps in the mixture. Allow to cool, pour over the cake mixture and chill. Just before serving decorate trifle with whipped cream and nuts or chocolate chips. Birds custard can be purchased at The British Pantry in Redmond. |
