GERMAN SLAW 
1 med. head cabbage, finely shredded
1/4 c. minced onion
1/2 c. very thin green pepper strips
8 bacon slices, cut into small pieces
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/8 tsp. Beau Monde seasoning
1/4 c. wine vinegar
3/4 c. water

Fry bacon until crisp. Remove to paper towels. Add next four ingredients to bacon fat and stir until dissolved. Add water and vinegar and cook until slightly reduced (10 minutes). Pour dressing over cabbage and onion. Toss. Top with bacon and pepper strips. Serve at once.
