8 c. flour 2 tsp. salt 1/3 c. baking powder 2 tsp. cream of tartar 8 tsp. sugar 2 c. shortening Sift dry ingredients into bowl and cut shortening into this mixture. Add milk for desired consistency; more will be needed for drop biscuits. For Dutch oven biscuits, heat the bottom well on bed of coals, but REMOVE before dropping in biscuit mix. Melt small amount of shortening in bottom; drop in biscuits. Cover and heap coals on the lid - wait about 10 minutes. (Conventional oven - cook at 400 degrees.) |
