DANISH APPLE PASTRY BARS | |
2 1/2 c. sifted flour 1 tsp. salt 1 c. shortening 1 egg yolk 1 c. corn flakes 6-8 apples (8 c.), pared & sliced 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 egg white Combine first 3 ingredients. Beat egg yolk in measuring cup, add enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid. Mix well. Stir into flour mixture. Flour surface, roll into 2 (17"x12"). Put one in 15 1/2" x 10" x 1" baking dish, up on sides too. Sprinkle with corn flakes, top with apples. Combine cinnamon and sugar, sprinkle atop. Place other dough over apples. Seal edges. Slit top. Beat egg white until frothy, brush on top crust. Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes. FROSTING; 1 c. sifted powdered sugar 3-4 tsp. milk Drizzle over warm pastry. Makes 12 to 18. |
