APPLE DANISH BARS | |
2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 c. shortening 1 egg yolk Milk 3 c. sliced, peeled apples 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1 c. cornflakes Combine flour and salt. Cut in shortening. Beat egg yolk in 1 cup measure. Add milk to make 2/3 cup. Stir liquid into flour mix. Chill. On floured surface, roll out 1/2 dough to 17 x 12 rectangle. Fit into and up sides of 15 x 10 inch pan. Sprinkle with cornflakes. Top with apples. Sprinkle on combined sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Roll remaining dough to 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches. Place over apples. Seal edges, cut slits in top. Beat 1 egg white until frothy. Brush on crust. Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes. Combine 1 cup 10X sugar and 3-4 teaspoons milk. Drizzle over bars. |
