Philly Cheese Steak

This recipe is so far from what a real philly cheese steak is... A cheesesteak doesn't have green peppers, mushrooms or mozzarella cheese. Also you do not butter the rolls. A real cheese steak is A hoagie roll, Chip steak, sauteed onions with CHEEZE WIZ! (you can buy it in any store by Kraft, it is creamy processed cheddar cheese)

A real Philly cheese steak is disgusting! Any improvement is welcome.

I'm sure a real Philly isnt disgusting...but I'm also sure there is no need for such negativity..you could try something like "a TRADITIONAL cheesesteak is just... you don't hear german people freakin out because we COOK our hamburgers and put more than just raw SHAVED, not ground, beef and onion juice on a bun...

Thanks for the awesome recipe!

Recipe sounds great and easy! I plan to try it. I like swiss and provolone cheeses. Do you think it will work well? Not a fan of cheese whiz so I am looking for the best alternatives. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

I think Kevin is right on, except for the cheese wiz. The taste that I grew up with was, hoagie roll, thin sliced chip steak with slices of american cheese. sauteed onions were optional and delicious. (cheese wiz if you were in south philly.)

Sorry folks but a true Philly cheese steak uses either WHIZ or Provolone. It's generally made w/ chipped rib-eye but the reason the sandwiches are so great is the roll. Amoroso's roll or equivalent baked roll in favor and texture makes those steaks a delight. I'm from north of Philly about an hour and in the Lehigh Valley our steaks almost always have tomato sauce and bad rolls. Once you try a true Philly steak sauce isn't need nor are peppers/shrooms etc, Start with a great roll. Grill some onions set aside. Cook steak, place steak and onion on roll add melted whiz or provolone to steak while cooking and enjoy.

Yes real Philly cheese steaks do not have green peppers, mushrooms and mozzerarella cheese. I came from a town 1 hour north of Philly. They used white american cheese instead of cheese wiz. They are topped with sliced hot peppers and pickle chips to top the steak. They also usually come with a tomato sauce similier to spaghetti sauce if requested.

Thanks for all the genius level remarks about what a Philly Cheese Steak is supposed to be. In the area I live - THIS IS the way this it is served and it is a delicious combination of taste. Always served with a kosher dill pickle spear on the side. Who care's how it is served in each area - or where it originated. Geez! - just fix to YOUR liking and enjoy....
