OLD FASHIONED TEA CAKES 
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. buttermilk
3 1/2 c. plain flour, sifted

Beat eggs. Add sugar and butter. Mix soda with buttermilk and add vanilla and work in flour just enough to handle. Let stand in a cool place for 1/2 to 1 hour. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick or thinner if desired and cut with round cookie cutter. Bake on greased cookie sheet until lightly browned at 350 degrees.
