BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
6 lbs. or 4 qts. sliced cucumbers
1 1/2 c. sliced onions
1/3 c. salt
2 trays ice
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tsp. mustard seed
3 c. vinegar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
4 1/2 c. sugar or less

In large bowl, slice cucumbers. Sprinkle 1/3 cup salt over them. Then put ice over it. Let stand 3 hours. Pour into colander and run water over them. Combine sugar and spices. Bring to a boil. Add onions and cucumbers. Let boil 10 minutes. Pack in jars and seal. Makes 5 pints or more.
