JANE BORR'S WHOOPIE PIES 
3/4 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
6 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 c. sour milk
Filling

Cream together Crisco and dry ingredients. Blend in eggs, vanilla and sour milk. Mixture will be thick. Allowing for 1 inch space between cookies, place batter by tablespoonful on greased cookie sheet, shaping and flattening out slightly with back of spoon and keeping them uniform in size. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. Cool.

To make pies, put 2 cookies together with filling. Wrap individually in wax paper or plastic wrap. Makes about 25 good-sized (approximately 2 1/2 inch) pies.

FILLING:

1/2 c. milk
3 tbsp. flour
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. Crisco
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix together milk and flour; cook slowly until thickened. Cool; add sugar and Crisco and beat hard until foamy and quite thick. Add vanilla and salt. Filling will look and taste similar to marshmallow. Use generously to fill pies.
