1 c. sugar
3 tbsp. shortening or butter
1 egg, slightly beaten
3 c. sliced apples
1/4 c. chopped nutmeats
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and continue to cream. Add apples, nuts, vanilla and stir to blend. Mix and sift all dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture and blend. Pour into greased 8 inch square pan. Bake 350 degrees (moderate oven) 40-45 minutes.
