ALMOND WAFERS 
1 c. softened butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt (scant)
2 c. slivered almonds

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

1. Cream together butter and sugar with mixer until light.

2. Add egg and beat until smooth.

3. Add vanilla, then lower mixer speed.

4. Add flour and salt; mix just until incorporated.

5. Divide batter in half. Using spatula dipped in warm water, spread each batter half to cover 1 ungreased cookie sheet.

6. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake 10-12 minutes until edges are brown.

7. Remove from oven and cut into 2 inch squares, removing brown edges.

8. Return to oven bake until brown.

9. Slide spatula under cookies to loosen, cool completely.
