BACHELOR'S BEEF STEW 
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 lb. steak (round, chuck)
1 c. sliced carrots
1 c. chopped onions
3/4 c. cubed potatoes
1 c. chopped celery
2 tbsp. tapioca (sm.)
1 c. tomato or V-8 juice
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 clove minced garlic (optional)

Cut steak into bite-size pieces. Place all in casserole. Gently toss to cover all ingredients.

Bake at 250 degrees for 4 hours. Can be done in the evening and reheated the next day. It improves on the second or third day.
