APPLE CRUMB CAKE - GERMAN STYLE 
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. soft butter
Dash of salt
2 tbsp. quick tapioca
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
5 c. thinly sliced apples

Combine flour, 1/2 cup sugar, salt and butter. Mix until crumbly. Measure out 3/4 cup and set aside. Press remaining crumbs into 9 inch round pan or baking dish, covering bottom and 3/4 up the sides. Mix apples, 1/2 cup sugar, tapioca and spices and arrange on crumbs. Bake 20 minutes at 400 degrees. Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top and bake 20 to 25 minutes longer or until crumbs are golden brown. Serve warm or cold with ice cream.
