APPLE BARS 
2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
Milk
2-3 handfuls corn flakes or Wheaties
8-10 apples
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix first four ingredients as for pie crust. Place egg yolk in a measuring cup and fill cup until 2/3 full with milk (save egg white for later). Add to flour mixture and blend. Roll out 1/2 of dough to fill large cookie sheet or jelly roll pan. Crumble cereal over the crust. Slice the pared apples onto crust. Sprinkle apples with sugar and cinnamon. Place other 1/2 of rolled out dough over apples. Seal edge together well. Beat egg white until stiff and spread over crust. Bake 1 hour at 400 degrees. Spread with glaze of 1 cup powdered sugar and hot water while still warm. Cool and cut into bars.
