CHARLOTTE RUSSE 
1 pkg. unflavored gelatin
1/4 c. cold water
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg yolk
1 pt. whipping cream
2 egg whites
1 doz. lady fingers
1 tsp. vanilla

Soften gelatin in cold water. Make a custard of milk, sugar, and egg yolk. Cook in double boiler. Stir occasionally for about 15 minutes. Add softened gelatin; mix well. Cool until lukewarm. Add vanilla. Beat egg whites until stiff. Whip cream. Add lukewarm custard to whipped cream. Line a bowl with lady fingers on sides. Pour on mixture. Let stand overnight.
