APPLE WALNUT BREAD 
1/4 c. Crisco butter flavor shortening
3/4 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. chopped apples
1/2 c. coarsely chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. In a large saucepan melt shortening over medium heat. Remove from heat. Blend in sugar, then egg. In medium size bowl mix together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Sift flour mixture into sugar mixture then add apples and nuts. Spread batter in prepared pan. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until top springs back when lightly touched.

Serves about 8 to 9.
