COMFORT CREAMED CABBAGE 
1 head fresh green cabbage
1 sm. onion
Salt
Sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. flour
White pepper
1 can evaporated milk or plain milk will do

Cut cabbage in 1/4 inch thicknesses. Put in saucepan. Slice thin and add onion. Sprinkle in salt and about 1/2 teaspoon sugar. Add enough water to cover and bring to boil. Turn off heat and let stand on the burner. (Cabbage will continue to cook in the hot liquid). Melt the butter in a separate pan and combine with the flour and a small amount of cabbage liquid 1/4 cup. Spoon the cabbage into this mixture. Add a sprinkle of white pepper, salt and a little more sugar. Stir in milk and serve.
