BUTTERMILK CAKE 
1 1/2 c. Crisco
2 1/2 c. sugar, sifted
3 1/2 c. cake flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda melted in 1 tbsp. hot water
1 c. buttermilk
4 eggs
2 tbsp. lemon extract

Cream Crisco and sugar until fluffy. Add milk, soda mixture, mix until all is damp. Add flour and salt all at once. Mix well. Add eggs, one at a time, beat well after each egg. Add flavoring, mix well. Bake in a tube pan 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours in a 300 degree oven. Let set 5 minutes before lifting from pan. Then glaze.
