BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
1 c. shortening
3 c. sugar, separated
6 eggs, separated
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla

Grease and flour 10 inch tube pan. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Beat shortening until creamy. Gradually add 2 cups sugar, beat until fluffy. Add egg yolks. Beat and mix well. Mix 3 cups flour together with soda, salt and buttermilk. Add together with other mixture. Add vanilla. Beat egg whites until they form a peak. Add last cup of sugar. Fold in batter. Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes.
