Put 3 cups soap flakes (such as Ivory) in a medium-sized bowl. Gradually add water. Beat with a rotary or electric beater to a soft, smooth consistency that holds a peak. Color, if desired.

METHOD 2

Moisten 1 cup laundry starch with 1 cup cold water. Add 2 cups hot water and cook until thick. Remove from heat add 1 cup soap flakes and a few drops of glycerin.

METHOD 3

Mix together in double boiler 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon salt and 3 cups cold water. Cook until thick, beating with an eggbeater or electric mixer.
