PORTUGUESE SWEET BREAD 
2 pkgs. yeast
1/4 c. water, 120 degrees
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. salt
6 c. flour
3 eggs, well beaten
1 egg, beaten (opt.)

Dissolve yeast in water. Scald milk and add sugar, butter and salt. Add 2 cups flour, beat until smooth. Beat in 3 eggs and yeast. Add remaining flour. Knead 15 to 20 minutes. Add more flour as needed. Let rise until double. Punch down and place in 2 greased pie plates. Let rise until double.

Brush with beaten egg, if desired, and bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. If you don't brush with egg, brush with melted butter after baking.
