MAPLE WALNUT CAKE 
2 c. brown sugar
2/3 c. shortening
4 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
2 tsp. vanilla
2 2/3 c. flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 c. chopped walnuts

Cream shortening and brown sugar. Beat in eggs. Sift and add flour, baking powder and salt. Add milk, vanilla and walnuts. Bake in a 10 inch tube pan at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

Ice with any favorite white icing using 2 teaspoon maple flavoring instead of vanilla. Also good not iced - serve with whipped cream or ice cream with warm maple syrup poured over.
