DATE BALLS 
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 lb. dates, cut up
1 egg, beaten
2 3/4 c. Rice Krispies
1/4 lb. butter less 1 tbsp.
1/2 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 tbsp. rum, optional

Cut up dates, butter; add sugar and 1 beaten egg. Bring to boil and simmer 8 minutes stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add vanilla, rum and Rice Krispies. Stir well and drop from teaspoon onto platter of coconut. Cover with coconut. Put date balls on cookie sheet. Cover with wax paper until firm. Put in can to store.
