BASIC COOKIE DOUGH 
1 c. sugar
1 1/3 c. butter, softened
2 tbsp. milk
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
3-4 c. flour

Combine sugar and butter. Add milk, vanilla, and egg. Mix well. Add 3 cups of flour; mix well. Add the last cup of flour, if needed, to thicken. Chill dough from 30 minutes up to overnight. Bake at 350 degrees on a greased cookie sheet for 10 minutes.

SLICE AND BAKE COOKIES:

Roll chilled dough using wax paper and a little flour.

CANDY CANE COOKIES:

Add 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract and a few drops of red food coloring to 1/2 of dough before chilling. Use enough dough of each color to make 2 1/2 inch sticks; twist together and bend for crook.

SNOWBALLS:

Add crushed pecans to dough and chill. Roll about 1 teaspoon into a ball; bake. Shake or roll in powdered sugar while still warm.
