MEAT BALLS WITH SWEET & SOUR
SAUCE
 
1 lb. hamburger
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 egg
1/2 onion, minced
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. savory salt
Cooking oil

Combine first seven ingredients; shape into small meatballs. Brown lightly in 2 tablespoons oil.

SWEET & SOUR SAUCE:

1 tbsp. oil
1 c. pineapple juice
3 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tbsp. soy sauce
3 tbsp. vinegar
6 tbsp. water
1/2 c. catsup
2 green peppers, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 (#2) can chunk pineapple

Combine first seven ingredients in saucepan; cook until barely thickened, stirring constantly. Add peppers, onion and pineapple. Add meatballs to sauce and simmer until done. Yield: 6 to 8 servings. May also be served as an appetizer.

The sweet and sour sauce was excellent.On a low sugar diet and this was the only recipe I found with no sugar added.I didn't try the meat balls because I had pork on hand and it was very good with the sauce.
