2 c. corn meal
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. flour
1/2 c. chopped onions
1 egg
1 2/3 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 c. grated cheese
2 jalapeno peppers, seeds removed

Mix all ingredients together and drop by teaspoons into medium hot deep grease. Let brown on both sides. If using self-rising cornmeal, omit baking powder and salt.

Makes about 2 dozen.
