ANISE SNAPS 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tbsp. anise seed

Sift together flour, soda, cream of tartar and salt. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, beat well. Add flour mixture and anise seed. Mix until well blended. Chill for several hours. Roll to 1/8 inch thick and cut into desired shapes. Bake at 350 degrees 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Yields 3 dozen small cookies.
