IRISH SODA BREAD | |
4 c. sifted all-purpose flour 1/4 c. brown sugar 1/4 c. butter 1 1/3 c. milk 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1 egg 1 tsp. baking soda 1 egg yolk, beaten Optional: 2 tbsp. caraway seed 2 c. raisins Sift flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Stir in caraway seeds if desired. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal, stir in raisins. Combine remaining ingredients. Turn onto floured board and knead lightly, shape into loaf. Brush with egg yolk. Grease bottom of pan, bake at 375 degrees about 1 hour or until wooden pick inserted comes out clean. Let bread cool about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy! |
