RED VELVET CAKE | |
2 (1 oz.) bottles red food coloring 3 tbsp. cocoa 1/2 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. sugar 2 eggs 2 1/4 c. plain flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. almond extract 1 tbsp. vinegar 1 tsp. baking soda Mix cocoa and food coloring together. Add shortening, sugar, eggs and cream together. Add sifted flour and salt, alternating with buttermilk, blend in vanilla and almond extract. In small bowl stir soda into vinegar. Then add to cake mixture quickly. Pour into 9" layer pans, greased and floured and bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. |
