VIENNESE CRESCENTS 
1 c. walnuts or pecans, ground
1 c. butter (must be butter)
3/4 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Combine the following ingredients. Knead to a smooth dough and shape about 1 teaspoon dough at a time into a small crescent about 1 1/2 inches long. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in 350 degree oven until slightly brown about 15-17 minutes. Cool 1 minute. While still warm, roll cookies in vanilla sugar. Cool completely and roll again in vanilla sugar.

Vanilla Sugar: Cut two vanilla beans into 1 inch long piece. Place in a jar with 1 pound sifted confectioners' sugar. Let stand three days.
