BOHEMIAN COFFEE CAKE | |
3 c. flour 2 c. brown sugar, packed 3/4 c. butter 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. black walnuts or English walnuts 2 eggs 1 1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tbsp. water 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda Combine flour, butter, brown sugar, salt, and nuts. Mix until crumbly. Take out 1 cup of mix and set aside for topping. Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla to remainder of crumb mixture and mix well until all ingredients are well blended. Add baking soda which has been dissolved in the 1 tablespoon water. Stir well. Pour into greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Sprinkle with topping and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes (test for doneness). Can frost with a powdered sugar drizzle on cake while still hot. |
