DATE FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. Crisco
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda, mixed in 1/2 cup warm water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
4 c. flour

Mix the above ingredients together.

FILLING:

1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. sugar
2/3 c. water
2 tbsp. flour

Heat in saucepan until thickened.

Drop cookie dough on ungreased cookie sheet. Make thumb print in each cookie. I dip my thumb in flour to prevent sticking. Add a rounded teaspoon of filling, top with more cookie dough (not too much for the top). Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
