DOUBLE CHOCOLATE TREATS 
1 cup butter (no substitutes), softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon baking cocoa
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups milk chocolate chips
additional sugar, optional

On a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugars. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in corn syrup and vanilla. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Roll into 1-1/2 inch balls; roll in sugar if desired. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Bake at 350°F for 12-14 minutes or until cracks look dry. Cool for 2 minutes before removing to wire racks.

Yield: 5 dozen.
